The boys were excited to wake up and see a blanket of snow covering the neighborhood this morning. The wind was ridiculous and we have seen so many people get stuck on streets around our neighborhood. At one point a little car got stuck and two men in a pick up got out and tried to help. Eventually there were about ten people out there with shovels trying to dig the car out of the snow. Two police officers in a Suburban stopped to help as well. A girl walked around the neighborhood with a snow board, but never did anything with it (probably because it was so windy that she was trying to keep from blowing away). It has been an interesting day. The snow stopped early this afternoon and the boys wanted to go play in it but it was so windy that we thought it might be best to wait and go play in the snow tomorrow. To pass the time Jacob and the boys tossed a cheese stick outside to see how long it would take it to freeze. Then, Jacob filled a cup with water, tossed a Vienna Sausage inside, and set it on the porch to see how long the water took to freeze. The water in the cup was completely frozen in under two hours. The boys got such a kick out of it. I thought it was weird, but Jacob said it was like he was doing science experiments with them. The boys spent the day in their pajamas and Jacob and I didn't do much of anything either. It was actually VERY nice! It has been a fun snow day and I anticipate tomorrow to be even funner -- with actual sledding and snowman making on the agenda. Hot chocolate will also be enjoyed tomorrow and I plan to make a big pot of chili and cornbread.
I wanted to share some pictures that Jacob took today.
This is our front door. The snow kept blowing on the porch causing a snow drift. Jacob would open the door about every 30 minutes so that the drift didn't get so high that we eventually wouldn't be able to open the door. Note the beautiful towel by the door -- the snow was blowing so hard that it was blowing under the door and coming into the house. We CAN'T close the wooden door when there is a snow storm going on outside, so we grabbed a towel. Problem solved.
This is our back porch. The boys' sand box is buried in the snow. Their John Deere riding toy is buried except for the bucket loader on the front. The boys thought the snow drifts were pretty cool.
The wind was blowing so hard -- all you could see what white. Then, this man with his dog appeared. There were actually a lot of pedestrians out today, which we didn't expect to see.
The neighborhood. This is our yard (and bushes) and the houses across the street.
I'm looking forward to another snow day tomorrow with my three guys. It should be a really fun day. And, yes, there WILL be pictures. ;)
Enjoyed the pictures. Thanks for posting. I read aloud to Carl the part about Jacob's putting different food items outside to freeze. We laughed because it sounds like Jacob. I'm sure the boys enjoyed it.
