100th Day Project

The kindergarteners at Alex's school are doing a project for the 100th day of school.  The children are supposed to get a collection of 100 things and figure out how they want to present the 100 items. All projects will be on display in the schools 100th Day museum for a while.  This project was an interesting one for us.  Our first plan was to break some crayons until we had 100 pieces of crayons and let Alex glue them all together in some form of art.  Well, he gets bored with gluing when he is doing homework so I didn't think having him glue 100 things would be the best idea.  So, Jacob and I talked and decided that it might  be fun to do something with 100 nails.  The family gets to help with the project and Jacob said he'd help Alex use a hammer and nail some nails into a piece of wood.  We decided to use a square wooden block so the project would be 3D.  3D is all the rage these days, right?

I wanted to share some pictures from Alex's project with you all.

Alex hammering nails into the wooden block

Logan wanted to hammer a nail in, too

Hammering in more nails -- there were 100 to hammer in, remember?  To speed things up a bit we decided to not hammer the nails in all the way.  This led to a really neat and interesting idea.

I helped Alex add red and white string to the nails on the top part of the block -- Alex thought it needed some color.

Alex with his finished project.  Do you see the happy face and the spike-y hair?  It's our own version of Pinhead!  LOL

The top of the project -- which is actually the hair.

  2. Great job, Alex. You really worked hard on that, didn't you? I'll bet that was lots of fun. At least the streets are clear today, so you can go to school. Your mom and dad have cool ideas, don't they?
