School on the Brain

Logan wearing his hand-me-down Mickey Mouse hoody.  It was Alex's last year and Logan always liked it.  Now it is his.  I have never met a child who gets so excited about hand-me-downs.  Some one asked Logan if he was excited about wearing his brother's old clothes because he wanted to look like "bubba." Logan smiled happily and nodded.  He was wearing his "new" hoody around the house this morning--it was 70 degrees in here so maybe he was cold.  Honestly, I think he just wanted to wear it because he's excited it now belongs to him.

On Friday we spent a good three hours doing school shopping and buying groceries.  I let Alex pick out a kiddie Thermos to take in his lunch bag.  He picked a Star Wars Thermos and then I heard a little voice say, "I want a Thermos."  Yes, it was Logan.  I turned to him and said, "You don't really need one, you're not taking your lunch next year.  You'll be eating with mommy."  He looked at the Lightning McQueen Thermos in front of him and said, "But I want one.  Can't I use one when I eat with you, mommy?"  So, as any good mother would do, I caved and let the poor boy get the Lightning McQueen Thermos.  It was worth it!  His little face lit up and Alex made a big deal out of them both having a Thermos.
Alex wanted a Super Mario Bros. back pack from Target but when we got there they didn't have any. They had many other back packs to pick from though.  Alex saw a Spider-Man back pack and said, "I really like this one."  I pulled it off the rack and said, "Is this the one you want?"  He said, "Yeah, I really like it."  I said, "Well, if you're happy with it, then I'm happy."  He rolled his eyes and said, "Mom!"  I love how he's only 5 and I'm already starting to embarrass him.  Ha.

We then moved on to the actual school supplies--the 14 glue sticks we had to buy and the 10 boxes of crayons. Alex had to have two folders--it didn't say they couldn't have characters on them so I let him pick any two folders he wanted.  He picked a Spider-Man folder and an Iron Man folder.  Then came the little voice again, "I want a folder."  I looked down at Logan and since the folders weren't even a dollar I said, "Okay, which one do you want?"  Again, his face lit up and he picked a dragon folder from How To Train Your Dragon. We got binders and map pencils, markers and folders.  We bought 16 glue sticks (I know Logan will have homework each week that will require glue) and we bought about 10 boxes of crayons.  We went to the Paper Plate aisle and bought Dixie cups, ziplock bags, paper plates, spoons--we also bought tissues.  It was a productive day.  We got home about 3 hours later and I realized that Logan has more on his list, but it's divided between the A.M. and P.M. classes.  Sadly, we don't know which he will be in at this point.  The boys have new shoes, new clothes, and everything they need for school (well, almost everything).  I can't believe it's almost time for school to start.  We still have 2 and a half weeks of summer and I hope to make them fun weeks.  I am, however, relieved that most of the school shopping is out of the way.

I'll keep you posted! :)

  1. At first I did think Logan was Alex in the Mickey Mouse hoody!! The older the boys get, the more they look like each other.
