Snow Day #5

Today was a little better (as far as snow days are concerned).  The sun came out and it wasn't nearly as cold as it has been.  I think it really made us all feel better.  The roads are just now starting to slush up but are still bad -- which, sadly, forced me to stay home and miss my best friend's baby shower.  We decided to make the best of it.  Since it is supposed to be the only nice day this weekend we decided to run to the store.  I made a menu for the next week and made a list and we hopped in Jacob's car.  The adventure started with Jacob's driver's side door being frozen shut.  The roads were scary until we hit Danforth, which had been cleared for the most part.  We got to the parking lot and it was pretty scary too.  We slid into our parking space and then I talked to the boys about walking on the ice from the car to the store and how they needed to be very careful.  Logan slid several times and almost fell once.  It was a stressful and tiring trip.  We got inside to the crowds of people who had the same idea we did.  We got what we needed (that they had) and then I looked at Jacob and said, "Run away!  We're done."  Jacob laughed and said, "Great! Let's get out of here."

After lunch we got the boys ready to go out and play in the snow for another day.  Jacob and I had talked about it and then laughed because we are both so sick of the snow, but we are glad we did.  It was a lot of fun.   I wanted to share some pictures of our 5th day of snow and all the fun the boys had in it today.

We went outside and the snow is still deep in a lot of areas.  Alex fell and then just laid face down in the snow.  It was so funny.

Logan starting a snowman -- the goal was to make it as big as Logan.

The boys and the finished snowman -- Logan got a little attached to him, I think. It might be sad when he melts.

The boys went sledding down the hill while we were outside too.  The above picture is Logan tossing snow in the air and watching it fall.  He loved doing that!

Alex stomped around in the snow and said he was the abominable snow monster.  Then he'd walk up to me and growl.

There is an elderly woman who lives across the street.  Jacob helped her get her mail today and she gave the boys candy canes.  Logan went over with Jacob to thank her.

Alex was trying to retrieve the "sled" and started sliding down the hill.  He came close to doing the splits.

Snow Day #4

Here we are -- home again for a fourth snow day.  Jacob had to go to work this morning and said the roads are horrible.  Actually, everyone I've talked to today who has ventured out says the roads are horrible.  It has been snowing all day here so the boys haven't been able to go outside.  It's cold enough without being snowed on while you're outside.  The boys have played outside every day since it snowed, so today we opted to stay indoors.  The boys have played a lot today, watched a couple of movies, and of course, there was hot chocolate.  Nothing too exciting but we're staying warm and I've been able to get caught up on laundry.  Here are some pictures of our fourth snow day.

This is Logan's Big Bear playing two mini arcade games at once this morning.  Logan thought it was hilarious.

Boys waiting for the Cocomotion to finish mixing up their hot chocolate.

Caramel and Vanilla marshmallows.  I won a bag of these in a gift basket a couple of months ago at the boys' school.  The boys LOVED them.  This is our second bag.

Ready to eat.  We made a deal where they could eat one and put three in their hot chocolate.  They'd eat the whole bag if I let them!

Can you tell they like them?

It is safe to say that (since the snow is still so high that I can't get my car out of the garage) that tomorrow will be another snow day.  We're supposed to get more winter "stuff" on Sunday.  So, we'll see how many snow days there are -- I'll keep you posted!

Snow Day #3

So, today was the third day of massive amounts of snow STILL everywhere, bad streets, and no school.  The campus was closed so Jacob got to stay home with us again today.   We went outside twice and had hot chocolate. I did some laundry and the boys played.  We found out the schools are closed again tomorrow.  Everyone here is talking about how bad the roads are.  Jacob has to go to work tomorrow because they are so far behind they just can't be closed any longer.  The funny thing is that most of the people on facebook are upset about it and threatening to use vacation time and not go in at all tomorrow.  It should be an interesting day -- Jacob says he's not looking forward to it.  At least it will be Friday, I guess.

I wanted to post some pictures of today's fun in the snow.

We tried to build a snowman, but the snow just wasn't working the way the boys wanted it to. So, daddy to the rescue!  Jacob suggested they build a snow fort and then have snow ball fights.  The boys LOVED that idea.  Here, the boys are adding snow to the snow fort.

Jacob, who has been shoveling snow for the past two days, decided to use the snow shovel to help make the fort's progress a little faster.

The finished fort -- Logan is showing me how you are supposed to duck behind it when some one throws a snow ball at you.

The icicle Alex used as a sword to guard the snow fort from his daddy.  LOL

Jacob was throwing snow balls and Alex wasn't ready.  Alex got mad and got right in Jacob's face to talk to him about it.  It was pretty funny.

Logan walking through our yard -- the snow still goes up to his knees.

Logan fell in the snow and was covered -- it was even on his face.  He was NOT happy about it!

Ready for sledding.  All of the neighborhood kids have been sliding down this hill with snowboards and anything they can find to use as a sled. You can see where all the kids have slid down the hill -- all the snow is gone and it's just icy grass.

Tomorrow is snow day #4 -- I'm sure there will be more pictures and more winter fun, especially since I can't get my car out of the driveway and therefore we will be here again tomorrow!

Snow Day #2

Today was our second snow day.  We will be having another snow day tomorrow -- Jacob told me he wants me to stay home tomorrow even if schools aren't canceled.  Sounds good to me!  Our street is a huge snow drift with deep ruts.  I honestly don't know how I'd get my little car down the street without getting stuck.  Our side street, which has a lot of heavy traffic, is still snow covered.  I'm more than happy with not having to get out in it another day.  We took the boys outside to play for a little bit today and Jacob has been working hard to try and clear the driveway so he can get out if the university is open tomorrow.

We had a lot of fun outside in the snow.  It's always so pretty when everything is covered in white.  It was bitterly cold so we didn't stay out too long, but I thought I'd share some pictures from our second day of being "snowed in."

Logan making a snow ball -- the boys had fun throwing snow at each other

Alex made a snow angel and then said, "Now I'm going to make a snow monster!"  He started wiggly and moving all over the place.  It was funny.

Me -- freezing while the boys played in the snow.  LOL

There was a large snow drift by the driveway.  It was almost as tall as Logan -- it went up to his eyes.  I had him stand in front of it to show how tall it is.

Alex ready to sled down the hill.  The boys were excited about it, but it didn't work because there was too much snow.  They were disappointed, but thought throwing snow balls was just as fun!

Logan all bundled up.  We came in after about 20 minutes or so to warm up.  We had hot chocolate and then the boys asked if they could play the Wii.

The boys playing the Wii after running around in the snow -- Alex wouldn't take his hat off!

The house smells like chili, which is cooking in the crock pot for dinner tonight, and we are just enjoying hanging out on our second snow day!  Here's to a third! LOL

Snow Day #1

The boys were excited to wake up and see a blanket of snow covering the neighborhood this morning.  The wind was ridiculous and we have seen so many people get stuck on streets around our neighborhood.  At one point a little car got stuck and two men in a pick up got out and tried to help.  Eventually there were about ten people out there with shovels trying to dig the car out of the snow.  Two police officers in a Suburban stopped to help as well. A girl walked around the neighborhood with a snow board, but never did anything with it (probably because it was so windy that she was trying to keep from blowing away). It has been an interesting day.  The snow stopped early this afternoon and the boys wanted to go play in it but it was so windy that we thought it might be best to wait and go play in the snow tomorrow.  To pass the time Jacob and the boys tossed a cheese stick outside to see how long it would take it to freeze.  Then, Jacob filled a cup with water, tossed a Vienna Sausage inside, and set it on the porch to see how long the water took to freeze.  The water in the cup was completely frozen in under two hours.  The boys got such a kick out of it.  I thought it was weird, but Jacob said it was like he was doing science experiments with them. The boys spent the day in their pajamas and Jacob and I didn't do much of anything either.  It was actually VERY nice!  It has been a fun snow day and I anticipate tomorrow to be even funner -- with actual sledding and snowman making on the agenda.  Hot chocolate will also be enjoyed tomorrow and I plan to make a big pot of chili and cornbread.

I wanted to share some pictures that Jacob took today.

This is our front door.  The snow kept blowing on the porch causing a snow drift.  Jacob would open the door about every 30 minutes so that the drift didn't get so high that we eventually wouldn't be able to open the door.  Note the beautiful towel by the door -- the snow was blowing so hard that it was blowing under the door and coming into the house.  We CAN'T close the wooden door when there is a snow storm going on outside, so we grabbed a towel.  Problem solved.

This is our back porch.  The boys' sand box is buried in the snow.  Their John Deere riding toy is buried except for the bucket loader on the front.  The boys thought the snow drifts were pretty cool.

The wind was blowing so hard -- all you could see what white.  Then, this man with his dog appeared.  There were actually a lot of pedestrians out today, which we didn't expect to see.

The neighborhood.  This is our yard (and bushes) and the houses across the street.

I'm looking forward to another snow day tomorrow with my three guys.  It should be a really fun day.  And, yes, there WILL be pictures.  ;)
